Beware Telephone Scams

Attention: open in a new window. Print

Please be aware that over the last few weeks there have been some instances of local residents receiving scam telephone calls. In a recent case, the callers are claiming to be from Warwick Credit Union and advising that the Credit Union has overcharged the member. The caller then says that the government have brought out a rule to ensure this money is returned.

The caller then asked for the member’s date of birth; however, when the member would not provide details, the caller hangs up.

Warwick Credit Union advises Members to follow these tips:

  • If you are in doubt about the authenticity of a call, hang up and call Warwick Credit Union immediately to verify it is genuine
  • Never use contact details provided by the caller, find the details via an independent source e.g. online search, telephone book
  • Never provide or confirm person details, credit card number or other account information over the phone unless you initiated the call and trust the other party
  • Be cautious if you are contacted by someone claiming to be from the government or a well-known business who requests personal details or an up-front payment

If you receive one of these calls or are worried someone has obtained your account information, please contact Warwick Credit Union on 1300 724433.
